How are scores calculated?We blend verified certifications with public information on each brand’s practices, controversies, and commitments into a single rating. When there’s enough to judge, you get a clearly-marked “Likely” rating; when there isn’t, we mark it Unrated rather than guess.
What do “Likely” and “Unrated” mean?“Likely” is our honest best read from certifications and public info, not a hard guarantee. “Unrated” means we don’t yet have enough reliable information — we’d rather say so than fake certainty.
Can brands pay to improve their rating?No. Ratings come from independent certifications and public information only. Brands can’t pay to change a rating.
Where does your data come from?Certification registries (B Corp, USDA, EPA Safer Choice and others) and public information on each brand’s practices, controversies, and commitments.
Why do you use AI?AI lets us cover far more brands than certifications alone ever could. A registry only tells you what a brand has been certified for — it can’t tell you about a labor controversy, a walked-back climate pledge, or the context behind a claim. AI reads the public record on each brand and turns it into plain-language insight at scale. Verified certifications still come straight from the registries, and when the evidence is too thin we mark a brand Unrated rather than guess.
