Truce Designs

Sports-outdoors
Leif rating: Likely Excellent

Truce Designs is a one-person workshop in Portland, Oregon, where founder Luke Mathers hand-sews bags and accessories from reclaimed sailcloth, drysuit-factory scrap and other high-performance fabrics like Dyneema and Kevlar. Luke learned to sew industrial fabrics repairing sails at North Sails Oregon, and the sail loft's scrap bin became his first source of material. Every bag is made to order, so nothing sits as overstock, and each one is covered by a lifetime warranty with repairs for worn zippers and buckles. Sailing crews can send in old sails to be turned into bags for their team, and Truce's upcycling has been covered by Field Mag and Cool Hunting. Truce has no third-party certifications, published labor policies or sustainability report, which is not uncommon for small or in-house brands.
